Setting Your Notifications on Canvas-2

Setting Your Notifications on Canvas

On Canvas, you can set your notifications to tell you when an assignment is due, when your professor updated a grade, or when there is a course announcement-- just to name a few. You can also decide how frequently you'd like to receive each type of notification. All of these features can help you stay on track as a student.

We strongly recommend you set up notifications for the following:

  • "Due Dates"--when assignments are due
  • "Grading"--when a grade has been posted
  • "Announcements"--when your instructor has posted an announcement
  • "Submission Comment"--when your instructor has commented on an assignment
  • "Conversation Message" --when someone has sent mail to your Canvas inbox

Here's how to set those features:

1. First, make sure you have the right contact information by going to "Account" and then to "Settings"

settings

2. On the right hand side of the settings page, look for "Ways to Contact" and then to choose "+Email Address" if you want to add an additional email address. The default email will be your student email: @email.vccs.edu.

3. If you want to receive text notifications, you can also add your cell phone number under "Other Contacts." Choose "+Contact Method" and enter your info.

4. Once you've set these contacts, then you'll go to "Notifications" where you'll select your preferences.

5. For each type of "Course Activity" you can select "Notify me right away," "Send daily summary," "Send weekly summary," or "Do not send me anything." You should set these preferences to reflect the help and support you wish to receive for keeping track of due dates and organizing classroom information.
